( 01239-612932; www.caernant.co.uk; Gwbert Rd; s/d £40/60; ) Big, bright, spacious rooms are on offer at Caernant, a delightful modern B&B just outside Cardigan. More than the rooms however, the wonderfully warm welcome will stay with you long after you’ve left. With tea and scones on arrival and incredible breakfasts it’s well worth the short trip from town. Caernant is less than a mile from the centre of Cardigan on the B4548.

Llety Teifi B&B ££

OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP ( 01239-615566; www.lletyteifi-guesthouse.co.uk; Pendre; s/d from £45/70; ) New and stylish, this place set in a large Victorian house has plenty of period character but is kitted out in tasteful modern style. Expect bold patterned fabrics and wallpapers, giant windows and spacious bathrooms, altogether a very good deal. Breakfast is served next door.

Fforest Camp CAMPGROUND ££

( 01239-623633; www.coldatnight.co.uk; Cilgerran; 3-night stay from £300 ) On the edge of Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve, Fforest challenges the notion that camping means roughing it. Stay in large tents, tepees or geodesic domes and enjoy the country air. Simple, wholesome breakfasts are served at the lodge. If Fforest Camp is full the owners run a second site further up the coast at Manorafon. There’s a three-night minimum stay in summer.

Practically all ingredients come from within a 25 mile radius and the menu uses seasonal produce in simple, honest dishes that make your palate sing. There’s no great gastro fanfare here but a warm, cosy atmosphere, a real passion for food and the best nosh in town.
